Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit Plus (KIP:D+)

 

An evolving initiative to support transformative projects to tap the vision and creativity of residents to improve quality of life in their neighborhoods in Detroit — and now — Highland Park and Hamtramck.

In 2014, Kresge’s Detroit Program launched Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit to support nonprofits in their work to improve the quality of life and strengthen the fabric of community. In 2021, the initiative (by then a collaboration of Co.act Detroit, Michigan Community Resources and Kresge) became Kresge Innovative Projects: Detroit Plus (KIP:D+), expanding its grantmaking footprint to Highland Park and Hamtramck. The 2024 round of KIP:D+ brings the total of granted projects and planning efforts to 193 – along with $15 million in total grant support dollars – since the effort launched in 2014.

In 2026, KIP:D+ launched its first-ever Cultural Heritage round, with up to $1.25 million available for community-led projects that preserve, celebrate and activate the cultural identity of neighborhoods across Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park. The Cultural Heritage round builds on a decade of KIP:D+ investments in resident-driven projects.
