Krista A. Jahnke Share Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Email The Kresge Foundation is pleased to debut its special centennial edition annual report, entitled “A Century of Impact, A Future of Opportunity, available now in print and digital formats. The report chronicles the Kresge Foundation’s 100th anniversary through a collection of 100 moments of impact from throughout its history. In the print book, readers will also find a unique experience: four pop-ups that bring to life iconic landmarks from the cities of Detroit, Memphis, New Orleans and Fresno. These symbolize Kresge’s deep-rooted commitment to these cities and highlight the cultural and historical richness that defines them. Through these landmarks, we honor these dynamic cities and the remarkable people who live there—their vision, dedication, and the vibrant communities they cultivate. The impact of Kresge’s 100 years of grantmaking was only made possible by Sebastian S. Kresge’s incredible generosity and vision and the thousands of partners we have worked with over the last century. On June 11, 1924, on the occasion of the S.S. Kresge Company’s 25th anniversary, Sebastian Kresge established The Kresge Foundation with a simple mandate: Promote human progress. The impact stories trace the foundation’s origins, the 80+ years of capital challenge grantmaking, and the shift to today’s work to expand equity and opportunities in America’s cities through grantmaking and social investing in arts and culture, education, environment, health, human services, and community development nationally and in our four focus cities. Most of these stories highlight the incredible work of our partners and, in many of them, readers will hear from those partners in their own words. We thank them for sharing their reflections. The 2023 annual report also includes letters from Kresge leadership. Board Chair Cecilia Muñoz writes about our progress toward equity and the challenges that remain. President & CEO Rip Rapson explores the six roles that philanthropy can play in city transformation. Cynthia Kresge, former trustee and great-granddaughter of Sebastian Kresge, gives a poignant account of her great-grandfather’s entrepreneurial spirit and his desire to make the world a better place than he found it.
