How does the Kresge Human Services program define next generation?

The Kresge Next Generation Initiative (NextGen) is focused on partnering with public agencies and non-profit organizations that are setting the pace of improving social and economic mobility (SEM) for children and families. These agencies and organizations are characterized as high-performing and are a) person-centered, b) outcomes-based, c) data-driven, d) applying a racial equity lens, and e) focused on greater sector impact and systems change. Finally, these agencies and organizations adhere to best practices such as brain-science informed and a two-generation (whole-family approach).

What does being part of Kresge’s Next Generation Cohort mean?

The initiative will be structured as a two-year program consisting of three components: 1) leadership development; 2) development of a community of practice; and 3) the creation of organizational and cohort action plans designed to advance and accelerate SEM using a two-generation, whole-family approach. Grants of up to $500,000 over two years will be awarded to up to 10 human service organizations and/or agencies. As part of this initiative, grantees will participate in a learning and collaborative network that will include two meetings per year.

Can any organization apply to be a part of the Next Generation Cohort?

No, only government agencies and organizations that meet the qualifications indicated above and who are using a two-generation (whole family approach) with a focus on SEM.

Can current Kresge grantees apply?

Yes, if you meet the qualifications listed above.

How do I apply for this cohort?

To apply, use the “Start a new grant RFP” option in Kresge’s online grantee portal between December 3, 2018 and no later than 12 p.m. noon EST on January 28, 2019. If you have previously been a Kresge applicant, please use your existing Fluxx credentials to apply. If you are a new partner to Kresge, you will need to register for an account for your organization before applying. Please know that it can take 5 to 7 days to receive your Fluxx credentials. When will we know if we have been selected as part of the cohort?

Selection of applications selected to move forward in the process and submit a full proposal will be made by February 1, 2019.
