Building Capacity and Commitment

We work to build the capacity and commitment of urban leaders across sectors to advance equitable approaches to climate change mitigation and adaptation.

For communities across the U.S. to make progress toward climate change strategies grounded in equity, leaders from government, private and nonprofit sectors, and community-based organizations must act now and understand the approaches they might pursue.

Through this focus area, we work to:

  • Strengthen the leadership and capacity of equity-focused nonprofit organizations to influence local and regional climate planning, policy development and implementation.
  • Increase knowledge of equity among local government officials and nonprofit organizations active in climate change mitigation and adaptation work.
  • Deepen the engagement of professional disciplines and networks in advancing their members’ climate change efforts with a current focus on urban sustainability directors, adaptation professionals, and the public health community.
