Informed by the foundation’s efforts in our hometown of Detroit, we work closely with local leaders and organizations in a set of focus cities to support collaborative strategies, inclusive community development and ecosystems that advance resident-informed change.  These mid-size cities with committed civic leadership, highly networked community organizations, rich cultural histories, and a concentrated mix of talent and resources make transformational change possible.  

Focus City: Fresno 

Fresno is a California Central Valley hub tackling complex challenges with holistic, data-driven strategies and deep community engagement. Since 2018, Kresge has sought to expand equity and opportunity by funding cross-sector planning and collaboration, community and economic development, community organizing and advocacy. Our American Cities, Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health and Social Investment Programs all make grants and investments in Fresno. (Our Work) 

Focus City: Memphis 

Memphis is a city of culture and resilience, driving transformation through civic infrastructure and community-led change. Since 2015, Kresge has worked with local leaders to translate lessons from Detroit to Memphis and advance equity. Focus City: New Orleans 

A rhythm-rich city advancing equity through cultural preservation, education and grassroots organizing. Since 2005, we’ve sought to expand opportunity and address challenges in this great city that is kindred to our hometown of Detroit.
