Hechinger Report, Soledad O’Brien Productions examine effects of the Supreme Court affirmative action decision

Education

Education Program grantees Soledad O’Brien Productions, in collaboration with The Hechinger Report, an independent nonprofit news organization focused on inequality and innovation in education, recently published a series of articles and a short documentary highlighting the impact of the Supreme Court ruling on race-based affirmative action in college admissions.

The first entry of The Hechinger Report series focuses on TeenSHARP, a nonprofit that prepares students from underrepresented backgrounds for higher education. The second entry highlights the Rodriguez family and two sisters on the opposite sides of history: Ashley, who was admitted to college when schools in many states could still consider race, and her younger sister Emily, who is a senior applying to college after the decision. Soledad O’Brien Productions produced a short documentary that compliments the two pieces and examines the fog of uncertainty for students and administrators, who say the decision threatens to unravel decades of progress.
