New Orleans is home to a richness of culture, creativity and leadership. Kresge’s grantmaking and social investing in New Orleans seek to expand urban opportunity and address challenges in this great city. After Hurricane Katrina, we recognized an opportunity to increase our support for the city and its people and respond in more strategic ways that stretched beyond our traditional capital challenge tools. To date, Kresge has invested $68 million through grants and program-related investments in New Orleans, but our financial commitments tell only a fraction of the story. We have been guided every step of the way by the innovation, energy, and commitment of those on the front lines of community life.
