Creative Placemaking Case Study: Brookland-Edgewood

Arts & Culture

This case study on the Brookland-Edgewood neighborhood of Washington DC, illustrates how Creative Placemaking, the deliberate integration of arts and culture into comprehensive community development, can serve as a critical catalyst in forming equitable living and working solutions for all the social, economic, and racial constituencies of a neighborhood. When Brookland-Edgewood intentionally embedded arts and culture into its economic resurgence, the neighborhood succeeded in protecting its cultural identity, bridging social differences, and elevating the voices of existing residents. The case study was authored by Point Forward and commisisoned by The Kresge Foundation.
