John A. Barker is a managing director at The Kresge Foundation where he is responsible for evaluating investment opportunities and investment managers across all asset classes and geographies for the foundation’s $3.9 billion endowment. Since joining Kresge in 2007, John has led analyst recruitment and training efforts for the Investment Office and created and implemented the team’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.
Previously, he was an assistant investment director at the University of Notre Dame. John earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Notre Dame and is credentialed by the CFA Institute as a Chartered Financial Analyst. He serves on several nonprofit boards, including the Children’s Foundation of Michigan, National Kidney Foundation of Michigan and Forgotten Harvest. John was recognized by Institutional Investor as a “Most Wanted Allocators: First Team” in 2018 and 2019 and was named a Crain’s Detroit Business “40 under 40” in 2019.
