Emily Bertsche

Emily Bertsche is the incoming deputy chief investment officer (CIO) at The Kresge Foundation, effective September 2026. In this role, she partners with the CIO to lead Kresge’s Investment Office, which manages Kresge’s endowment.

Since joining Kresge in 2024, Bertsche has held leadership roles across the foundation’s public and private investment portfolios and most recently served as managing director of private markets. In her new role she will continue to help guide investment strategy, portfolio construction, manager selection and team development.

Previously, Emily served as director of growth assets for the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust. In that role, she oversaw the private and public equity portfolio for the nation’s largest nongovernmental purchaser of healthcare benefits.

A native of Chicago, Emily earned a bachelor’s degree in the science of foreign service from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service. Emily serves as a Trustee of the Ann Arbor Summerfest and as an investment committee member of the McGregor Fund and Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees.
