Sarah Moreau Share Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Email Kresge has recently welcomed three new staff members who span its communications and investment departments. Emily Bertsche serves as Kresge’s newest investment director, where she joins a team of financial professionals to evaluate, recommend and monitor investment opportunities across public markets and ensure robust portfolio construction. Most recently, she served as director of growth assets at the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust, where she led private and public equity investments for the health care purchaser. Bertsche has been recognized in the CIO Magazine Class of 2023 NextGens and as a Milken Institute Rising Allocator. Bertsche earned a bachelor’s degree in international politics from Georgetown University. “I am excited to join such an engaged, intellectually curious and dynamic investment team and energized by the Kresge mission,” Bertshe said. “I am also personally passionate about the opportunities to achieve financial outperformance through investing with Diverse managers and am excited about the foundation’s commitment to direct 25% of its U.S. assets to be managed by diverse-owned firms by 2025.” Maria DeLorenzo joins the foundation’s External Affairs and Communications team as a communications officer, specifically supporting Kresge’s Social Investment Practice and Education Program. Previously she served as communications director at Endeavor, where she worked with founders of high-growth startup companies across the Midwest and led external communications efforts including social media, website development and digital publications. Prior to Endeavor, DeLorenzo was communications director at Mission Throttle, a boutique social investment and advisory firm that worked with nonprofits and social enterprises across Michigan on business planning and financial sustainability solutions. “I am thrilled to join Kresge’s immensely talented communications team, and I am truly thankful for the privilege to apply my suite of skills and experience to a century-strong organization that has made an outsized contribution to social progress in cities across the country — especially in Detroit, my hometown,” DeLorenzo said. “I look forward to working with the brilliant minds and warm hearts of the social investment and education teams.” DeLorenzo holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Michigan State University. Sarah Moreau, Kresge’s new internal communications officer, works closely with departmental teams to provide strategic employee communication guidance and support editorial efforts at the foundation. Previously, Moreau was the communications officer for the Oakland County Board of Commissioners, where she led a team of professionals in sharing information related to local elected officials and county government functions. She especially worked to find unique ways to bring residents and officials together, including through the leadership of award programs that highlight traditionally overlooked communities. “Kresge’s mark on the world surrounds us in metro Detroit and beyond,” Moreau said. “To be contributing to an organization with this kind of history and legacy is humbling, and I look forward to bringing my experience across government and corporate communications to serve our teams.” Moreau earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism, with minors in flute performance and women & gender studies from Oakland University. She also holds a master’s degree in strategic communication with a concentration in organizational communication for leadership from Michigan State University.
