The South African Institute for Advancement, known as Inyathelo, managed the original $10.5 million Kresge Special Initiative in South Africa, which focused on building private advancement capacity at five large teaching institutions. This grant will support implementation of the South African Annual Survey of Philanthropic Income in Higher Education (ASPIHE), which will complete the second phase of work, the five-year Kresge Inyathelo Advancement Initiative (KIAI) that seeks to build the advancement  capacity of South African universities to better meet educational missions, including increasing graduation rates.
