The teaching and research university has established the Center for Regional Food Systems, which leverages applied research, education and outreach to advance understanding of and engagement with regional food systems. Grant money enables CRFS to assist regional groups in designing and implementing a multistate food-hub network based on the successful model of the Michigan Food Hub Learning and Innovation Network, which has helped local food hubs supply healthy food profitably to new markets, including underserved communities.
