2019

This 2-year grant provides project support to the GALA Hispanic Theatre (GALA) for its Creative Placemaking activities in the Columbia Heights neighborhood in Washington, D.C.  Funding will allow GALA to raise the visibility of residents and small cultural businesses by documenting their stories through a multi-media exhibition targeted in various D.C. neighborhood venues, including community development and nonprofits. This grant is in alignment with the Arts & Culture Program team’s focus on Place-Based Initiatives, which invests in established organizations working at the intersection of arts and community development.  It also supports the team’s interests in the impacts of Creative Placemaking such as narrative change, social cohesion, and resident agency as pre-conditions to long-term change.
