The association’s affiliated Physicians Free Clinic/Voluntary Care Network has coordinated access to primary and specialty care for more than 30,000 patients since its inception in 1993, but it now faces increasing demand. Grant support from the Health Clinic Opportunity Fund enables the free clinic to continue to provide uninsured residents with competent care and affordable prescription drugs. The fund is designed to bridge, build and sustain the operations of high-performing community health centers serving diverse and vulnerable populations. It targeted free clinics, public health clinics and designated federally qualified health center look-alikes to meet both the immediate and long-term health needs of their constituents. Priority was given to projects that leverage existing resources, create more effective operating systems, improve efficiencies and expand and maintain access to health services for vulnerable populations.
