Innovative Approach to Student Homelessness Reduces Housing Insecurity and Improves Graduation Rates

Education

Researchers working with the Center for Equitable Higher Education at Cal State Long Beach have completed a three-year evaluation on the effectiveness of an innovative program designed to help college students experiencing homelessness in California. According to the report, the College Focused Rapid Rehousing program (CFRR) has significant advantages over traditional short-term housing assistance that includes higher graduation rates, greater long-term housing stability and improved mental health. The CFRR model is based on a community rapid rehousing approach that seeks to quickly move people experiencing homelessness directly into permanent housing and provide rental subsidies and social and educational supports including individual case management.
