Jonathan Hui is a senior program officer at The Kresge Foundation. He supports the Detroit Program’s work to advance socioeconomic mobility for children and families through strong, comprehensive child- and family-centered neighborhoods. His work focuses on building cross-sectoral coalitions to implement policy and place-based solutions from cradle to career that ensure neighborhoods support thriving, healthy and secure children and their families. He joined the foundation in 2017.

Previously, Jonathan has served numerous roles at the intersection of education, community development and policy. He served as director of strategy and planning at the Education Achievement Authority of Michigan, where he was involved with leading talent recruitment, organizational strategic planning and systems design at the state-run school district. Jonathan has also served as an on-loan Senior Advisor to the Detroit Public Schools Community District, supporting the launch of major initiatives ranging including the District’s Facility Master Plan, a districtwide behavioral health initiative, the expansion of citywide Pre-K, and the district’s first Office of Whole Child Support. Jonathan started his career as a social studies teacher at Denby High School in Detroit, Michigan, as a Teach for America corps member and later as its coordinator for community partnerships, where he led its community schools initiative.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University.
