Kelly S. Leon is a communications officer at The Kresge Foundation, where she supports the Education and American Cities programs. She joined the foundation in 2019.
Previously, Kelly served as communications and advocacy officer at the Institute for Higher Education Policy in Washington, D.C., where she managed strategic media, digital and advocacy communications. She started her career in strategic communications at the District of Columbia Public Schools system, then continued this work at George Washington University, and later, at the U.S. Department of Education, where she served as assistant press secretary.
A native of Inglewood, California, Kelly earned a bachelor’s degree in English and journalism and a master’s degree in organizational management from George Washington University, where she was a Presidential Administrative Fellow. She has also completed doctoral coursework in educational administration and policy studies.
