Michigan Opera Theatre’s David DiChiera named 2013 Kresge Eminent Artist

Composer and operatic impresario David DiChiera – a champion of Detroit’s renaissance – has been named the 2013 Kresge Eminent Artist.

The Kresge Eminent Artist award and $50,000 prize recognize DiChiera’s contributions as founder, music and general director of the Michigan Opera Theatre, his creativity and commitment to the community and his efforts to build cultural bridges through the arts.

Monograph celebrates life and work of Kresge Eminent Artist Naomi Long Madgett

Applications being accepted for 2013 Kresge Artist Fellowships

Nine literary and nine visual artists from metropolitan Detroit will receive $25,000 awards.

Detroit-area literary and visual artists are invited to apply for $25,000 Kresge Artist Fellowships.

Funded by The Kresge Foundation and administered by the College for Creative Studies, the unrestricted fellowships include professional practice opportunities for the selected fellows provided by ArtServe Michigan.

Sixty-plus greater Detroit arts and cultural organizations get grants from The Kresge Foundation

Two-year grants totaling $4.2M help fund day-to-day operational expenses.

The Kresge Foundation has awarded two-year grants to 66 arts and cultural organizations in the Detroit metropolitan area.

The grants totaling $4.2 million were made by Kresge’s Detroit Program, which invests in efforts to create long-term economic opportunity that advances social equity, promotes cultural expression, and re-establishes the city as the center of a vibrant region.

A little more than half the funding will support the activities of 55 small and medium-sized arts and cultural organizations. The balance will support 11 large institutions.

New office puts Kresge’s Detroit Program team at the heart of the city’s revitalization

The opening provides opportunity to show off the city and reinforce the Re-Imagining Detroit framework and partnerships.

The Kresge Foundation has joined the wave of organizations renovating and re-using office, retail and other space in Detroit.

The national philanthropy recently completed the renovation of a 2,500-square-foot office in the city’s Woodward Garden Block.  The office space gives Kresge’s Detroit Program a home base close to its work and a convenient space for meeting with grantees and other partners.

$600,000 in fellowships to Detroit area literary and performing artists

Two dozen Metropolitan Detroit literary and performing artists have been awarded Kresge Artist Fellowships for 2012. Each of the 24 fellowships includes an unrestricted prize of $25,000, rewarding creative vision and commitment to excellence within a wide range of artistic disciplines.

The fellowships represent The Kresge Foundation’s desire to advance the artistic careers of Detroit artists living and working in its hometown, as well as elevate the profile of the area’s artistic community.

Kresge’s Detroit Arts Support grants have provided more than $11M since 2007.

The Kresge Foundation’s Detroit Program will again offer two-year grants to small and mid-size arts and cultural organizations in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

The application period for Detroit Arts Support grants is May 1-June 4.

Detroit Arts Support grants provide unrestricted operating dollars to organizations in the performing, visual and literary arts. Funding is also available to institutions engaged in arts service, education and broadcasting.
