Kresge makes record $10 million loan commitment to community lenders working in underserved communities

Support for NEXT Awards for Opportunity Finance encourages strong community-based lenders to expand in low- and moderate-income communities.

TROY, Mich. – The Kresge Foundation will provide $10 million to a loan fund that makes financing available to small businesses and nonprofit organizations in low- and moderate-income communities.

The largest in Kresge’s history, the loan represents a milestone in the foundation’s move to augment its grantmaking with a more aggressive use of program related investments, loan guarantees, and other forms of social investments.

Laura Trudeau is senior program director for the Community Development and Detroit programs. She manages Re-Imagining Detroit 2020, The Kresge Foundation’s nine-point framework to reverse decades of disinvestment in Detroit and reposition the city as a model for revitalization.

Nationally, Laura works with community development grantmakers and practitioners to identify promising initiatives for the redevelopment of older industrial cities and to build bridges between Detroit and other urban communities to encourage the sharing of information and strategies.

TROY, Mich. – Beginning today, visitors to kresge.org will notice a blue tag on pages throughout the site inviting them to provide feedback.

Clicking on one of tags takes visitors to a survey about Kresge’s website. The survey is part of a multi-pronged effort to ensure the website is as easy to navigate and as useful as possible.

TROY, Mich. – The Kresge Foundation isn't the same organization it was five years ago. And now the 87-year-old foundation has a new website that fully reflects its evolved priorities. Kresge has shifted from helping to build the nation's nonprofit infrastructure – hospitals, libraries, academic buildings – to helping nonprofit organizations address some of society’s most pressing problems.

TROY, Mich. – The Kresge Foundation is pleased to award 12 2011 Kresge Artist Fellowships in the visual arts. Each fellowship includes an unrestricted prize of $25,000 and customized professional practice opportunities. The 2011 class of fellows consists of 11 individual artists and one artist collaborative.
