Climate center to release online database of equity-focused climate adaptation resources

Environment

A Kresge Foundation-funded online database of equity-focused climate adaptation resources for practitioners and other professionals will be launched on Thursday, March 30 by the Georgetown Climate Center with a webinar including Jalonne White-Newsome, senior program officer with Kresge’s Environment Program.

The webinar will include a demonstration of the portal and examples of efforts to integrate equity into adaptation planning. Registration is available here.

In addition to White-Newsome, speakers include:

  • Felipe Floresca, Senior Consultant with the Emerald Cities Collaborative
  • Matthew Gray, Chief of Sustainability at the City of Cleveland
  • Melissa Deas, Institute Associate at the Georgetown Climate Center

The portal will provide case studies, tools, guidelines, and practical examples for integrating climate policy with environmental and social justice goals.

Recognizing that vulnerability to climate change entails not only physical risks but social and economic considerations, city leaders across the United States are trying to develop climate adaptation policies that address inequities and lessen disproportionate climate impacts on low-income residents and people of color. The portal is designed to assist in those efforts by providing better links between policy makers and the climate justice community to help ensure more efficient and effective prioritization of equity and social cohesion in decision making.
