CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: $4.5 Million in Grants Available to Detroit-area Arts and Cultural Organizations

May 19, 2010

TROY, Mich. – Nonprofit arts and cultural organizations in Metropolitan Detroit's Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties are invited to apply for unrestricted operating support from The Kresge Foundation. Through its Arts Support initiative, Kresge will award $4.5 million in grants over a two-year period to small, mid-size and large organizations.

Awards are based on merit and size of the organization's annual operating expense budget.  Small organizations are those with operating expenses less than $300,000. Mid-size organizations are those with operating expenses between $300,000 and $2.9 million.

The application deadline for small and mid-size organizations is Monday, June 21, 2010, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. For complete information on eligibility, the application process and to apply, visit the Arts Support section of the Kresge Web site.

Large organizations -- those with operating budgets of $3 million or more -- were invited to apply by e-mail earlier this month. The application deadline for large organizations is Friday, June 4, 2010, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.

Kresge Arts Support together with the Kresge Artists Fellowships and the Kresge Eminent Artist Award constitute Kresge Arts in Detroit, a coordinated effort to showcase and support Metropolitan Detroit's tri-county arts and cultural community. Kresge Arts in Detroit is one facet of the foundation's Detroit Program, a comprehensive community-development framework intended to strengthen the long-term economic, social and cultural fabric of the City of Detroit and surrounding area.
