Kresge’s Detroit Arts Support grants have provided more than $11M since 2007.

April 24, 2012

The Kresge Foundation’s Detroit Program will again offer two-year grants to small and mid-size arts and cultural organizations in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

The application period for Detroit Arts Support grants is May 1-June 4.

Detroit Arts Support grants provide unrestricted operating dollars to organizations in the performing, visual and literary arts. Funding is also available to institutions engaged in arts service, education and broadcasting.

“A strong arts and cultural community in southeastern Michigan enriches the quality of life for residents and visitors,” says George Jacobsen, associate program officer in Kresge’s Detroit Program. “In doing so, that community inspires new ideas and innovation, and accelerates the creative vitality of the region.”

Since 2007, Kresge has provided $11.1 million in operating support to 74 small, mid-size and large organizations in Metro Detroit’s three-county region.  In 2010, $4.5 million was awarded over two years to 62 arts organizations. Grants awarded in the 2012-13 cycle are expected to provide a similar level of support.

Detroit Arts Support grants are intended to provide flexible support to nonprofit organizations devoted to arts and culture. Grants are to be used to help organizations implement their core programs and services.

Organizations with annual budgets of less than $300,000 may apply for grants of $5,000 to $15,000 a year. Organizations with annual budgets between $300,000 and $2,999,999 are eligible for grants of $10,000 to $50,000 a year. Grants cannot exceed 10 percent of an organization’s annual operating budget.

Larger arts and cultural organizations have previously been invited to apply for support.

Detroit Arts Support provides grants to arts and culture organizations that:

  • Increase opportunities for cultural and artistic participation and expression for people of all backgrounds in the Detroit area.
  • Contribute to the quality of life and cultural vitality of the region.
  • Engage and support regional artists.
  • Build on and strengthen existing arts and cultural assets and infrastructure.
