White paper makes case that farm workers are most vulnerable members of U.S. workforce

Family earned income for hired farm workers averaged $17,500 to $19,999 per year in 2007-2009, according to National Agricultural Worker Survey statistics cited in the report. Although many hired crop farm worker families meet the income test for needs-based federal and state assistance programs, such as Medicaid, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children, and food stamps, less than 1 percent of hired crop farm worker families receive payments from welfare programs, according to the report. ...
