Michelle D. Johnson serves as program associate with The Kresge Foundation’s Human Services team. Her responsibilities include reviewing grant requests from community-based nonprofit organizations, making recommendations for grant funding, and monitoring a portfolio of grants.

Michelle explains, “My exposure to philanthropy began 10 years ago through my work as a fundraiser for a nonprofit organization. I witnessed the critical role that community-based organizations play in helping low-income and vulnerable citizens attain their human rights and access to opportunities, enabling them to live self-sufficiently. It is my passion to help those in need to thrive in this nation.”

Michelle joined Kresge in 2006 and initially worked as a generalist across all fields of interest. She previously worked as a financial resource development analyst for the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.

Michelle earned a bachelor of arts in industrial/organizational psychology from Wayne State University. She also holds a master of science in management from Walsh College. Michelle is a member of Emerging Practitioners in Philanthropy and an active member of The Transforming Life Ministries.
